The Sault High Blue Devils’ regular season came to an end Wednesday night in Marquette in Division 2 Team District action. The Blue Devils took on the Escanaba Eskymos for one of the most exciting duels of the season.
Nine matches of the eleven different weight classes wrestled were decided by pins.
Calvin Aldrich (190), Chris Kiekhafer (215), Max VanDoren (113), Wyatt Peabody (126), and Will Ohman (138) pinned their opponents to keep the match close. Escanaba countered with four pins. Cody Russo (157) had a win on the night, beating his opponent by points. Escanaba also had one match won by points.
The final score was 40-39.
The Blue Devils now shift their focus toward Individual District competition in Gaylord on Saturday, where they are expected to meet some tough competition and have some great matches against a number of highly competitive schools in this district.
