Winter weather advisory for parts of EUP late tonight and Sunday

Up to six inches of snow are possible through Sunday late afternoon.

Accumulating snow is expected late tonight through Sunday for parts of the Eastern UP.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for central and eastern Chippewa County and eastern Mackinac County from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. This includes all areas mainly east of a Brimley-Trout Lake-Brevort line to the St. Marys River and Drummond Island.

Meteorologists says a wintry mix of rain, snow and sleet will develop later tonight then change to snow after daybreak Sunday.

Total snow and sleet accumulations between three and six inches and ice accumulations around a light glaze. Winds will gust as high as 35 mph.
