National Weather Service continues the Winter Storm Warning through 4 a.m. Saturday for much of the Eastern U.P.

The National Weather Service (NWS) continues the Winter Storm Warning until 4 a.m. Saturday for all of Chippewa County and Eastern Mackinac County.

NWS meteorologists say heavy, wet snow is expected. Total snow accumulations between 6 and 8 inches, with localized amounts in excess of 10 inches are possible. Wind gusts as high as 35 mph, leading to blowing and drifting snow.

Roads, especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous.

Visibilities may drop below one-quarter mile due to falling and blowing snow.

The strong winds and weight of snow on tree limbs may down power lines and could cause sporadic power outages. Travel could be very difficult. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility.

The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday morning and evening commutes.
