Two weeks of high school football in the books

The schedules get tougher this week for most teams as things start to get interesting

After handily beating Suttons Bay in week one in 8-man football, the St. Ignace Saints welcomed in the Pellston Hornets for the second week of the fresh season.

The Saints had no problem with the out-matched Hornets, winning 46-6 on Thursday.  This week the Saints travel to Alcona, who is also 2-0.

The Engadine Eagles made their way to the far Eastern U.P. village of DeTour to play the Cedarville/Detour Islanders in an 8-man match-up.

The Eagles scored first but after that, the Islanders poured it on after that winning 36-6 in another Thursday match-up.

The Eagles will travel to Onaway to play the 1-1 Cardinals.

Under the Friday night lights, Sault High travelled to Cheboygan and won 26-0.  The Blue Devils have shut out their first two opponents in this early season. The Blue Devils travel to Cadillac to battle a solid Viking team that is 1-1 on the year.

The Newberry Indians are 2-0 on the year after beating the Munising Mustangs 16-6 in a low-scoring 8-man battle. Newberry travels to Rudyard Friday for a match-up that could be brutal. Two great coaches with two highly competitive teams promise a great game.

Rapid River Rockets ventured into Rudyard Friday to play the Bulldogs. This one wasn't close from the start with Rudyard crushing the Rockets 58-0. Next up is a big game at home against the Newberry Indians which will test where Coach Jim Suggit's team stands in 8-man football here in the Eastern U.P.

Brimley Bays scored 42 points in a loss against Newberry in week one.  The Bays hope to tighten up their defense while maintaining their offensive scoring against Mid-Penisula.   The Bays lit up the scoreboard in the first half....56-0 at intermission.  The game was called at halftime due to lightning in the area.

Pickford traveled to Superior Central and came back with a blow-out win of 68-0.  They will have a tougher test this week against the Brimley Bays.
