SUV hits ramp on Sugar Islander II ferry

Ferry service was halted for approximately one hour and 45 minutes

Ferry service between Sault Ste. Marie and Sugar Island was interrupted earlier today after an accident on the Sugar Islander II.

Around 10:45 a.m., fire officials say the driver of a silver SUV was one of the first ones on the ferry when it hit the ramp.

The collision between the vehicle and ramp caused the airbags to deploy.

Two people were in the SUV with one going to the hospital for observation.

There was an oil leak from the SUV that was cleaned up.

Anytime Towing hauled the disabled vehicle away.

Ferry service was restored by 12:30 p.m.
