Kinross EMS is located in the heart of Chippewa County and is one of three full-time EMS operations in the county.

According to Michigan Association of Ambulance Services (MAAS), the state needs around 1,000 new paramedics and emergency medical technicians. This shortage is resulting in significant overtime for current EMS workers and increased costs for EMS agencies.

Kinross EMS is doing something about it by offering two EMT-Specialist/Advanced Emergency Medical Technician courses at their station in Kincheloe at 5220 W. M-80.

The AEMT classes will start Tuesday Sept. 24, 2024 through Dec. 21. Classes will be held via zoom/in-person Tuesdays/Thursdays and some Saturdays 9 a.m.-6 p.m. in-person.  EMT-B classes start Oct. 14, 2024 and run on Mondays, Wednesdays, and some Saturdays ending March 15, 2025.

Kinross EMS Paramedic/Director Renee Barry Gray is eager to get interested people trained and educated.

"Staffing shortages continue for Emergency Medical Services across the nation. If you are contemplating a new career and want to help your community by providing treatment and transport for the sick and injured, these courses may be what you're looking for. After successful completion of the National and State requirements, the candidate is eligible for employment with an EMS agency. Consider entering the rewarding world of EMS and join our team today," Gray said.
