St. Marys Walleye Club will honor past and present military members in its third running Veteran's Fishing Day multi-species tournament and fish fry on Saturday, June 17.
Veterans should arrive at Conley Point DNR boat launch in Barbeau, MI no later than 7 a.m. to register with their assigned volunteer boat captains. Captain registration is scheduled at 6:30 a.m. Everyone must show a valid Michigan state fishing license to register.
The National Anthem will play and boats will take off around 7:30 a.m., returning to Conley Point DNR boat launch by 2 p.m. for weigh-in:
1st Place: Big Walleye
2nd Place: Big Pike
3rd Place: 2nd Biggest Walleye
4th Place: Biggest all species (not including Walleye/Pike)
5th Place: Biggest 5 fish basket of Walleye
A fish fry will follow at Cozy Corners in Barbeau at 3:30 p.m.
Volunteers will have all of the necessary fishing gear on hand: tackle, poles, bait, and etc. Veterans should be prepared with the appropriate attire should the forecast call for cold an/or rainy weather.
Veteran's Fishing Day will go on rain or shine. In the case of high winds and/or thunderstorms, fishing will postpone until the Sunday, July 24.
