Week four of high school football in the Eastern U.P. will provide us with some great matchups.
Friday evening's games include:
Sault Ste Marie hosts Escanaba in 11-man action. After a close game at Cadillac last week losing 14-7, the 2-1 Blue Devils need to get back on the winning track by beating the 1-2 Eskymos. The Blue Devils defense is playing very well this season holding their first two opponents scoreless and only allowing 14 points in the Cadillac loss.
In 8-man football in Division 1, #10-ranked Rudyard makes the short trip to #2-ranked Pickford in a game that promises to be a dandy. Rudyard has scored 147 points total in the first three games. Pickford has scored 166 points. Each team has pretty staunch defences, too.
In another 8-man battle in Division 1, Inland Lakes-Indian River travels to St. Ignace. They are both ranked at #7. Both have high-powered offences that also promise a very entertaining game.
After their first loss last week to Rudyard, 2-1 Newberry travels to Ironwood in 8-man action hoping to get back on the winning path.
The 0-3 Engadine Eagles travel to the winless Mid-Peninsula Wolverines. The Eagles are hoping to get their first win of the season in 8-man.
At 10:30 a.m. Saturday, the 3-0 Cedarville/DeTour Islanders welcome the 0-3 Britton-Deerfield Patriots to Cedarville for a game that the Islanders should win big.
Also on Saturday, Brimley travels to Superior Central to take on the 0-3 Cougars. The Cougars have yet to score this year. That game is at noon in Eben Junction.
