Snow Snake Competition happens Saturday at Bay Mills

It runs from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Bay Mills Cultural Center

The 9th annual Snow Snake Competition will be held Saturday, March 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Bay Mills Cultural Center at 12498 W. Tower Rd.

According to Shannon Jones, editor at the Bay Mills News, "Snow Snake is a traditional Native American winter game. It has been played for centuries. Participants use a wooden carved 'snake' (these are various sizes) and throw it down a track made from snow. The idea is to get yours down the track the farthest. The popularity of the game has increased over the last several years in the Great Lakes region. There will be various age groups participating, with prizes being awarded. We are also asking folks to bring soup to share, as we anticipate it will likely still be pretty cold outside."

Everyone is invited, no experience is necessary, and snow snake sticks are available to use.
