Rep. Friske reads to Lincoln students

Friske received a pleasant surprise of his own when he opened Jan Bower's 'I'm a Michigan Kid!'

In honor of National Reading Month, 107th District State Representative Neil Friske read to third grade students at Lincoln Elementary School on Monday afternoon.

"Reading is super important for kids during their most informative years," Friske said. "I am excited to be involved and help them develop in literacy. Reading is knowledge."

In return, Friske received a pleasant surprise of his own when he opened Jan Bower's I'm a Michigan Kid! to find his family farm –  Friske Orchards.

Nephews Richie and Jonny were pictured in front of a field of berries, telling all about state's nourishing soil and "perfect" climate. Today, the boys share ownership of the farm with their sister, Heidi. He shared a brief story of Friske Orchards with the class.

Principal Carl McCready thanked the state representative for coming into the school to read to its third grade students.

"It reinforces what our parents and teachers are doing to ensure we have a literate society," said McCready.
