Over the past week, a half-dozen drivers in Sault Ste. Marie were pulled over by Michigan State Police Troopers.
With flashing red and blue lights in their rear-view mirrors, the drivers had no idea what was going to happen.
The Troopers were spreading a little Thanksgiving cheer as part of their "Random Acts of Kindness - Law Enforcement Edition" by handing out gift certificates for a 14-16lb turkey from Pat's Foods.
Community Service Trooper Cody Mayer from the St. Ignace post worked with Pat's Foods to make this turkey giveaway possible.
"Initially, you can see that they are a little concerned or they did something wrong or wanting to know what they did, but once we start explaining things and tell them about the gift certificates and the turkey, a lot of excitement and a lot of people are very grateful for it. It's important for us to do this because for most people when they have contact with us, it's a bad day for them. But this is a good experience for them to have a positive experience with the police," said Tpr. Mike Mariuzza.
The two drivers Tpr. Mariuzza pulled over did not want to be interviewed, however, were grateful to receive the gift certificates.
Post 82 in the Sault also has 'Stuff the Blue Goose' and 'Shop with a Hero' campaigns coming up for the Christmas Season.
