4:30 p.m. update: Walmart posted the following to social media.
"We would like to apologize for having to close again after our last post.
"Everything is working again and Michael would like to welcome you back into the store. We plan to remain open for normal hours.
"Thank you for understanding!"
2 p.m. update: Walmart Sault Ste. Marie has reopened with the exception of the bakery and deli, says a 1 p.m. social media post.
Customers are asked to use the grocery side door until notified otherwise.
A social media post by Walmart says the store was closed this morning when the smell of gas was detected.
The post did not estimate when the store will reopen but said it will update the public when it's ready to reopen.
Sault Ste. Marie Fire Department was at the store on Wednesday morning but cleared the scene at 11 a.m.
