Musicians Unite stage benefit at Bird's Eye on Saturday

Mary Jo Jenkins, wife of Project 906 guitarist Joe Jenkins, continues to battle cancer

Several bands and musicians are teaming up with Bird's Eye Cafe and Outfitters to help out a local woman battling cancer.

The event is Saturday 3 p.m. - midnight at Bird's Eye Cafe and Outfitters in Sault Ste. Marie.

Here is information from the Musicians Unite Facebook page:

Come out to support the family of Project 906 guitarist Joe Jenkins as his wife continues to battle cancer. Project 906 is well known for entertaining the EUP for years, this is our chance to give back to them!

Sault Ste Marie resident, Mary Jo Jenkins has been undergoing treatments since her breast cancer diagnosis last spring. Following chemotherapy in the Sault, all of her appointments have been in Ann Arbor at the U of M hospital.

There continues to be lasting effects of a double mastectomy and reconstruction, chemotherapy, and ongoing appointments and this mom and wife is currently out of work and her husband Joe has had to take a substantial amount of time off of work to transport and be with her through it all.

This power couple is near and dear to our hearts. She, a positive force, despite everything she has gone through and continues to go through during this second breast cancer diagnosis. Joe, guitar player from Project 906, trying his hardest to hold their family of five together.

We have enlisted the help of band friends locally, as well as from the west end of the U.P and northern lower Michigan, to provide 9 solid hours of live music on March 22nd.

Thank you to Ken and Wilda Hopper from Birdseye Outfitters for giving us an awesome space to hold this benefit.
Donations at the door as well as silent auction items available to bid on! Let's show Joe and Mary Jo what community looks like and come out to support while rockin' out to some great live music!

About:Blank is a relatively new band to the Sault made up of familiar faces! Parker Talentino and Nathan Webber both former musicians in a number of local bands! And Kade DesArmo on drums.

Project 906 needs no introduction! However they will have fill in singers for this show which should make their set truly unique!

Dirty Musky hailing from Sugar Island, another well know local EUP touring band! (With a chicken drummer! So cool!)

Exit 808 came on the local scene hot and heavy over the last couple years. Bringing their classic rock vibe mixed with the heavy hitting male and female vocals! Have you heard their lead guitarist... he's a master shredder!

Driving Dawn is traveling up from northern Michigan and has already opened for a number of large acts including Jackyl and the Scorpions! They are also the winner of the 2024 Recovery battle of the bands in Alpena!

Spun hails from the west end of the UP and is guard to bring the house down! This event is truly in debt to these guys and their willingness to bring/set up and run sound for the event! And unsung heroes for sure!

In between sets the music will continue  with a couple other solo acts.  One of which is the very talented 13 year old Molly Escherich Music Page !! She won the 2024 LSSU Battle of the Bands at 12 years old with her band Molly & the Other Guys and placed 2nd with the local band Tarnished as their fill in drummer for the event. She will be attending Interlochen summer camps this year for Popular Music Performance and Singer Songwriter for 6 weeks. She's also been accepted to their Arts Academy for 9th grade boarding school where she will major in Popular Music Performance (if she decides to go!)!!🎶

Let's support MaryJo Jenkins and her family in this truly amazing star studded event! Guaranteed to be an amazing night of live music while also supporting an awesome local family!  BTW... I hear the silent auction will be fire.
