Soo Theatre is proud to present Little Women - The Broadway Musical.
Performances are Thursday, Nov. 7 - Sat., Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. with a matinee on Sunday, Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. at the historic Soo Theatre in downtown Sault Ste. Marie.
Little Women embodies the complete theatrical experience, guaranteeing a night filled with laughter, tears and a lifting of the spirit.
Based on Louisa May Alcott's life, Little Women follows the adventures of sisters Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy March. Jo is trying to sell her stories for publication, but the publishers are not interested – her friend, Professor Bhaer, tells her that she has to do better and write more from her own experiences. Begrudgingly taking this advice, Jo weaves the story of herself and her sisters and their experience growing up in Civil War America.
A lot of hard work goes into a production like this.
"Auditions were held the last two days of July and we got right to work! We started out with some basic staging and music rehearsal and then worked a lot on individual characters. Rehearsals have been two to three hours long and have typically been three to four days a week up until the last two weeks of the show where we have been here every day," said lead actor, Sara Russell.
Soo Theatre puts on many performances throughout the year.
"There are so many different factors that go into picking our season. We get input from the community; all of our actors have lists on lists of shows they'd love to do here at the theatre. We have a planning meeting to discuss all of these lists and talk about the popularity of a show. If it's something we've done before, we look at how long it's been since we've done it. We have to check if the licensing is even available for a show and costs," Russell explained.
Several actors explain why this performance is well worth attending.
"Little Women is a timeless tale about staying true to yourself and following your heart. The highs and lows are beautiful and emotional, and as a cast, we've really put our hearts on our sleeves to deliver a moving and genuine experience that will last long after the show. Also, contrary to what it might seem, Beth is not blind." - Holly Remshaw.
"This has been a blessing to work with this amazing group of people to bring Little Women to life. I'm excited for everyone to see them in action, especially my March sisters!" - Elizabeth Curtis
"It's super romantic. Not just in a lovey-dovey way, but also in a nostalgic way. The costumes, sets, and esthetics are all top notch and harken back to simpler times." - Samuel Cox
"It's a classic and beautiful story! We've put a lot of work into it. Bring tissues!" - Leah Russell
