The inaugural Wal-Mart Community Safety Event earlier today drew nearly 200 people.
The event ran from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
First responders, including Sault Fire and EMS, Sault City Police, Chippewa County Sheriff Department, Sault Tribal Police, and Customs and Border Patrol all set up in the parking lot for the event.
Walmart managers had only a couple weeks to get it organized but were very pleased with the turnout.
"Every store did it a little differently. This is what we decided to go with," said Ethan Dietz, Walmart Front End Coach.
Children, and adults alike, visited various stations where the first responders were located.
While the event was held to raise money for the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals' Shop with a Cop program, it also brought increased awareness to what local first responders do.
"One, it's phenomenal for the kids. It lets them meet their heroes. Gives them the chance to meet officers and the firefighters and the people who keep us safe. Two, it gives our adults the chance to learn some good safety tips for them whether it's home safety, or summer safety, and water safety. Things like that," added Dietz.
Dietz hopes to expand the event even more next summer.
