Deep Roots Salon and Northern Sand and Gravel (NSG) are teaming up to give one special makeover to one special woman.
But the two businesses need your help to find the winner of The Heart of the Community: A Makeover Giveaway.
They need you to nominate a woman who inspires you – that one woman who always puts others first and makes our lives better every single day.
The winner will receive a full color service, cut, blow out, style education by Mary Rader at Deep Roots and a shopping trip to NSG to handpick her perfect outfit.
Shelli Bishop, owner of Deep Roots, explains how this idea to give a woman a complete makeover became a reality.
"The idea of the heart of the community makeover came about because I have a special woman in my life that is the most selfless woman I know. This event is so important to me because I admire her very much. I always want to try to find a way to pay it forward to a woman like her. I know that there is no way I will ever be able to repay her and she would not expect me to. Small acts of kindness are the least our team can do. I am so grateful that my stylist and whole team are excited and welcoming to be a part of this," Bishop said.
Bishop thought outside the box to make this a unique event and teamed up with the owner of NSG, Kathleen VanSloten to make it all happen.
"I noticed Northern Sand and Gravel's Facebook posts and admired the hard work that they are putting into their storefront and the values they have. I thought it would be a really great fit to help us make a bigger impact in someone’s life than we could do on our own. I am honored they agreed to a partnership with us. They have been so generous and kind already. They are organized and amazing to work with," Bishop said.
In a press release, VanSloten said "it felt right. This campaign is about so much more than just a make over. It's our way of saying thank you to the women who uplift their families, care for others, and make our community a better place. We know there are so many incredible woman out there. We hope this campaign encourages others to take a few moments to reflect on the women who inspire them and to nominate someone special."
The nomination contest started Dec. 27 and already several dozen entries have been submitted.
"It is going to be extremely difficult to choose the final winner. I wish we could choose more than one. These letters are all so beautiful and thoughtful. The ones nominated by their children and husbands pull at my heartstrings. All of them really. We are going to have to sleep on it for sure. The letters definitely take your breath away. I honestly did not think it would be this hard to narrow it down. I am happy to hear the love in every single letter submitted. All I hear is kindness in 150 plus pages submitted so far. Life gets so busy but these people took the time to nominate their loved ones," Bishop explained.
The deadline for entries is Jan. 10. The winner will be announced Jan. 13.
