Green flag drops to start the I-500 Snowmobile Race

It's 500 laps on the one mile oval made from over a foot of ice with sleds topping 100 mph

The green flag dropped at 10:00 a.m. Saturday for the 55th running of the I-500 Snowmobile Endurance Race in Sault Ste. Marie.

The race is considered the most gruelling and prestigious snowmobile race in the world.

It's 500 laps on the one mile oval made from over a foot of ice with sleds topping 100 mph.

Three dozen sleds started the race and all are hoping to take home the top prize.
