'Evening with the Arts' returns, drawing huge crowd (50 photos)

K-12 students showcase their art at Sault Area High School

Hundreds entered through the doors of Sault Area High School at 6 p.m. yesterday evening to view art painted, drawn, etched, carved, sewn and constructed by kindergarten through high school students in its "Evening with the Arts" event.

Junior high school art teacher Ms. Christina Sizemore has been with the school since the start of COVID in 2020. She was excited to finally see her students participate in Sault high's art night.

"My pottery students did phenomenally this year," said Sizemore, showing off an incense holder and painted Simpson's family display.

Nearby, senior Matt Goff caught the attention of spectators with art entitled, "Caesar Salad." Butter knives punctured through the canvass of a brightly colored salad surrounded by floating band-aids. Gofff's next piece will encompass a mysterious abstract twist on Joan of Arc.

Classmate Elizabeth Ohman displayed numerous charcoal portraits in the front lobby, each intended to inspire in a unique way.

"All of them are reference photos that I took or found online," she said. Most of them are pretty tense and stoic."

Ohman wishes to draw in her free time while studying psychology at Saint Mary's College next year.

Senior Jaelyn Azevedo was dressed her best to present a sewn emerald gown and various other fashion designs. She plans on attending Kent State University where she will study fashion design.

Meanwhile, band and choir students played live music for all to hear.
