Early morning fire destroys Sault, MI home

No injuries were reported

Fire destroyed a house on Fort St. in Sault Ste. Marie early this morning.

According to Sault Ste. Marie Fire Chief Edwin Miller they got the call shortly after 4 a.m.  When crews arrived, fire was already through the roof.

The fire was extinguished after four hours of frigid firefighting as temperatures were below zero.

Miller said six people were inside, but escaped uninjured. There were no firefighters injured.

Miller also noted that there were no functioning smoke alarms at the time of the fire.

Sault Ste. Marie City Police, DTE Energy, Cloverland Electric and Chippewa Co. Central Dispatch all provided assistance.
