LANSING, Mich. - Sen. John Damoose welcomed Kim Nowack, director of the Mackinac Bridge, and Patrick Gleason, chairman of the Mackinac Bridge Authority, to Lansing last week to testify before the Senate Committee on Civil Rights, Judiciary and Public Safety in support of his legislation to designate the Mackinac Bridge as a “key facility.”
“This essential and iconic structure is an identifying symbol of our state,” said Damoose, R-Harbor Springs. “We have had some concerning situations in recent history and this designation would have helped greatly with the prosecution of bad actors. This is not only in the best interests of our residents here in Michigan but across the nation as a symbol of national defense. My bill will ensure that the bridge is afforded the protections it rightfully deserves.”
Officials from the Michigan Department of Transportation were also in attendance to show their support.
