Collision in downtown Sault closes Ashmun Street Bridge Updated

Pedestrian transported to hospital after being struck by pickup truck

Sault Ste. Marie Police Chief Wesley Bierling has released a statement on social media.

He reports the pedestrian who was hit by a pickup truck on Tuesday afternoon was a 15-year-old student of the Sault Area Schools District. He also confirmed the pedestrian was injured but is in stable condition.

The Ashmun Street bridge in downtown Sault Ste. Marie was closed to all traffic for just over an hour today after police and EMS were called to a collision between a pickup truck and a pedestrian.

The call came in just before noon when the accident occurred on the south end of the bridge at the intersection of Ashmun Street and Sheridan.

Sault City Street Department put up barricades to reroute traffic. The road was reopened at 1:15 p.m.

Police report the pedestrian was transported to MyMichigan Medical Sault and is in stable condition.

Sault Fire/EMS, Sault City Police, Chippewa County Sheriff's Office and Michigan State Police all responded to the scene.
