Up to 9 inches of snow fell in parts of the Eastern U.P. in the 24 hours from Monday 8 a.m. to Tuesday 8 a.m. prompting several school districts to either close school for the day or have a two-hour delay start to the school day.
A winter weather advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. today for all of Luce, Chippewa and Mackinac counties.
The National Weather Service says up to 4 inches of snow could fall in the heaviest snow squalls off Lake Superior through 7 p.m.
The extended forecast calls for more periodic lake-effect snow squalls through the holiday weekend.
