BREAKING: Red Flag Warning issued for Eastern U.P. on Wednesday

Very high to extreme fire danger across the region, National Weather Service says

The National Weather Service in Marquette has issued a Red Flag Warning for Wednesday, June 7 for east-central Upper Michigan, including Chippewa, Mackinac, and Luce Counties, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are expected Wednesday, June 7.

A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and exceptionally dry fuels will create dangerous wild land fire conditions.

Campfires, outdoor grills, smoking materials, chain saws, and all-terrain vehicles all have the potential to throw a spark and ignite a dangerous and destructive fire.

Forecast: Temperatures warm in the mid-60s to mid-70s. Critical relative humidity values in the teens and winds gusting as high as 20 to 30 mph will result in dangerous fire weather conditions Wednesday, June 7 across much of central and all of eastern Upper Michigan.

The strongest wind gusts will occur across eastern Upper Michigan during the afternoon hours.

Measurable rain is not in the forecast until late in the weekend and early next week.
