Around 10:30 a.m. this morning, the Sault Ste. Marie Fire Deptartment got called to the Soo Locks for smoke being reporting in the basement of the administration building.
The building is located inside the Soo Locks between the Poe and MacArthur locks.
Fire Chief Edwin Miller said they found the source of the smoke to be an overheated motor in the electrical galley. Miller also commended Soo Locks personnel in assisting the firefighters in locating the source.
The building was evacuated during the investigation.
Westbound Portage Avenue was rerouted for a short period of time.
Firefighters cleared the scene around 11:30 a.m.
Miller did note that this was the second time they responded to the Soo Locks today. Earlier this morning, they were dispatched for a medical call inside the Locks.
