The #6 ranked Sault High Blue Devils hockey team is heading to the Division 3 State Quarterfinal Saturday, March 1 to play the #1 ranked in Houghton Gremlins. The Gremlins are considered the 3rd best team in the state in all divisions according to the MHSAA.
The two will clash at Lakeview Arena in Marquette at 1 p.m.
The Blue Devils beat the #2 ranked Marquette Sentinels 3-0 Thursday evening to capture the Region 18 title and advance.
The Sentinels and Blue Devils had identical 20-5-1 records heading into their matchup.
Earlier in the season. the Blue Devils lost both games to the Sentinels 2-1 and 4-2.
First score of the night came at just over five minutes into the first period. From behind the net, Korsen Pace sent the puck in front of the goal. Ryan Jackson is there to slip the puck past Marquette's goalie Cole Kelly for the score.
There was no scoring in the second period as both goalies were spectacular.
Blue Devils coming out of a penalty kill, Garrett Gorsuch passed the puck to Ethan Chambers. He scores to make it a 2-0 game for the Blue Devils.
With just under two minutes left in the game, the Blue Devils get an empty net goal by Gage Greeley to seal the victory.
Shots on goal were in favor of the Blue Devils 28-27.
The winner of Saturday's game will advance to the semi-finals at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth next Friday.
