The 28th Bi-Annual Trans Superior International Yacht race kicked off this morning at 8 a.m. under sunny, calm conditions.
Nearly three dozen vessels departed George Kemp Marina in Sault Ste Marie and made their way through the Soo Locks between 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.
They will all meet at Gros Cap Light on the SE part of Whitefish Bay for the official start at 1 p.m.
The 326 nautical mile race will end in Duluth, Minnesota.
It will take the vessels two to three days to arrive depending on weather conditions.
Many of the racers in this event also competed in the Port Huron to Mackinac Island race and the Chicago to Mackinac Island race.
