Teenage driver dies in fiery crash near Marquette

A teenager has died after a fiery crash just after midnight near Marquette, according to Michigan State Police.

At approximately 12:05 a.m., troopers from the Negaunee Post were dispatched to County Road 482 near County Road CM in Ely Township for a report of a crash.

"Upon arrival, troopers located a vehicle approximately 30 yards off the roadway fully engulfed in flames," state police said in a news release. 

Troopers immediately attempted to extinguish the fire and render aid to any occupants in the vehicle, state police said.

"The vehicle was a white Ford SUV and was located laying on its right side and appeared to have gone through numerous large trees before coming to rest," police said.

The lone occupant of the vehicle, a 17-year-old female from the area, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.

Troopers were assisted by Ishpeming Twp Fire, UPHS Bell, Rescue 131, and the Marquette City Police.
