Sault woman accused of assaulting homeowner after entering without permission

A Sault Ste. Marie woman was arrested after she allegedly entered a Pickford area home without permission and assaulted the homeowner.

On 11/5/2024, a trooper from the MSP Sault Ste. Marie Post responded to a residence on Townline Road in Pickford Township for a reported home invasion. The trooper arrived and found, allegedly, a 46-year-old woman from Sault Ste. Marie had entered the residence without permission. The residence belonged to an ex-acquaintance of hers. After entering the home, she allegedly assaulted the homeowner.

Following the trooper’s investigation, Kimberly Backus was arrested for Home Invasion First Degree and Domestic Violence. She was lodged in the Chippewa County Jail.

Backus was arraigned on 11/6/2024 in the 91st District Court. Her bond was set at $500 with conditions, and she was released. She is next due in court on 11/18/24. The defendant is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
