UPDATE: Motorcyclist critically injured in Sunday crash near Walmart

The crash involved a motorcycle and car

Monday update:

Sault Ste. Marie Police say a motorcyclist who was involved in a crash near the entrance of Walmart on Sunday was critically injured.

Emergency crews were called to the Bus. I-75 at around 2 p.m.

Investigators say a southbound pickup truck collided with the northbound motorcycle when the truck was turning left into the store’s parking lot.

The motorcyclist was taken to MyMichigan Medical Center in Sault Ste. Marie before being transferred to MacLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey.

Police say his condition is currently stable.

The crash remains under investigation.

Bus. I-75 has reopened in all directions after a crash near the Walmart entrance.

Just before 2 p.m. today, Sault Ste. Marie City Fire, EMS and police were dispatched to an crash between a motorcycle and a vehicle on Bus. I-75 at the Walmart entrance.

Northbound traffic is being detoured at the roundabout using 3 Mile Road. Southbound Bus. I-75 traffic is allowed only in the right lane.  

As of 3 p.m., the collision is being investigated with multiple law enforcement agencies on scene. There is no official word on the extent of injuries from either driver of the motorcycle or the vehicle.  

The city will be putting up "road closed" signs and barriers to redirect traffic.
