OSCODA COUNTY, Mich. - The Michigan State Police (MSP) Alpena Post is announcing the arrest of 46- year-old Michelle Lynne Elowski of Alpena for several felonies including embezzlement and common law fraud.
The investigation began in February 2023 when the MSP received allegations of an embezzlement by a local Alpena attorney. There are a series of embezzlement cases being investigated by the MSP Alpena Post where Elowski has allegedly embezzled funds entrusted to her by multiple clients which had retained her to represent them in respective divorce, probate, or other civil matters.
One of the cases involved an Oscoda County resident. The investigation led to an arrest warrant being issued for Elowski. She was arrested this week and arraigned. More charges are expected, and the case remains open as more victims are identified.
Elowski was arraigned today in the 81 st District Court in Oscoda County for one count check fraud non-sufficient funds $500 or more, two counts common law fraud, one count embezzlement by an agent or trustee $1,000 or more but less than $20,000, one count embezzlement $50,000 or more but less than $100,000. Her bond was set at $500,000 10 per cent cash surety. Her next scheduled court appearance is on Feb. 12.
