Tina Marie (McCall) Popoola, age 54, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, died on June 21, 2024, at MyMichigan Sault. She was born on May 3, 1970, in Sault Ste. Marie, to James and Frances (Gagnon) McCall.

Tina grew up in Sault Ste. Marie and graduated from Sault High School. After graduation, she worked as a home health nurse and also took care of family members. In her recent years, she worked for Kewadin Casino’s as a deli cook and hostess. Tina was a strong, independent woman and a caring mother, very compassionate and would give the shirt off her back for anyone.

Tina was a member of The Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians.

Tina was the first girl to play on the boys’ hockey team in February of 1980. She received a plaque from this event and a written article in The Sault Evening News. Tina was also known to be a fighter, she fought in the Tough Man Contest and won. She was also adventurous and recently went on a trip to Africa.

Tina enjoyed hanging out with family and friends. Her favorite place to be, was at Soldier’s Lake camping. She liked to go morel mushroom hunting and picking blueberries.

Tina is survived by her son, Nathaniel McCall; daughter, Katherine Marble; stepson, Ben Steward; grandchildren, Nathaniel McCall Jr. and Raymond McCall; mother, Frances McCall;; brother, James (Deb) McCall; nieces and nephews, Stephanie Payment, Nichole (Josh) Wilson, Edward Tallman Jr., Lori Tallman, Amanda Arnold, Brice, Braden, Kailyn, Chloe, Joseph (Brianna) Brown, Scotty (Arianna) Brown; step mom, Terri McCall along with several more who will all miss her dearly.

Tina was preceded in death by her husband’s, Lawrence Miller, John Massaway, Mark Steward, and Ken Marble; father, James Clifford McCall; aunt, Frances (Edward Sr.) Tallman; niece, Bonnie Tallman

A Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2024, with Native Services at 10:00AM, at the Niigaanagiizhik Cultural Building, 11 Ice Circle Drive, Sault Ste. Marie. And on Friday, June 28, 2024, with Christian Service at 10:00AM and 11:00AM Funeral Procession to Oaklawn Chapel Gardens Cemetery, 15264 M-129, Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan 49783. A luncheon will follow at the Niigaanagiizhik Cultural Building.

Final resting place will be Oaklawn Chapel Gardens, Bruce Township, Michigan.
