Harold Leo Belanger, age 89, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, died at McLaren Hospital in Petoskey, Michigan, on December 1, 2023. He was born on July 6, 1934, in Sault Ste. Marie, to Joseph and Catherine Belanger.

Harold grew up on Sugar Island, Michigan. He joined the United States Army in 1954 and was gifted the National Defense Service Medal for his service. Once returning from the United States Army, he began to work for the Brotherhood of Painting at the age of 24 and found a lifelong career with them. He was given the opportunity to paint in many different places all over the United States. He painted the Mackinac Bridge in Michigan, and attractions in Florida and California. He married the love of his life, Eleanor Mary (Causley) on August 10, 1968, in Brimley, Michigan and they enjoyed many years together creating memories.

Harold enjoyed fishing, from fly fishing to spearing—he loved it all. He often went hunting, boating, and did gardening in his free time. He loved going to bingo with his “Bebe” Eleanor and watching Western shows.

Harold is survived by his son, Paul (Lois) Cadreau; daughter, Donna Causley; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will all miss him dearly.  

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Eleanor; and son, Randy Franklin.

A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at 1 PM on Sugar Island, Michigan, at WilWalk Cemetery as Harold joins his beloved Eleanor once more.

Memorials in Harold’s memory may be left to the Lions Club of Sugar Island, 6572 South Leading Light Lane, Sault Ste Marie, MI 49783.
