CHIPPEWA COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT

The Chippewa County Health Department (CCHD) in support and partnership with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) and Michigan Medicaid continues their efforts to eliminate Hepatitis C through the “We Treat Hepatitis C Initiative.” The State of Michigan created the Hepatitis C Elimination Plan to lay the foundation for our state becoming Hepatitis C free. Awareness improves everyone’s understanding of viral hepatitis transmission and decreases risk factors associated with the social stigma against viral hepatitis.

Important Facts from the CDC:

  • Several different viruses can cause hepatitis, the most common types of viral Hepatitis are hepatitis A, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C.
  • Chronic hepatitis B and hepatitis C are leading causes of liver cancer in the United States.

Both Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B are preventable with safe and effective vaccines, and hepatitis C is curable with prescribed treatment. According to the CDC about 66% of individuals with Hepatitis B, and approximately 40% of individuals with Hepatitis C, are unaware of their infection.
