GREAT LAKES SMART SHIPS COALITION

On Friday, Sept. 13, the mission team from the Great Lakes Smart Ships Coalition gathered at the Great Lakes Research Center in Houghton to provide an update on its pioneering deployment of an autonomous surface vessel (ASV) that conducted a large-scale mapping and archaeological exploration in Lake Superior in hopes of finding the wreckage of a 1968 plane crash. The team is still analyzing what it has seen and will provide updates as they confirm details. The team has 100 items from the sonar findings to research.
