Sault Water Tower paint job complete, but more work to do

Water testing will be done this week then AT&T cellphone electronics will be installed back on top in a few weeks

This is a story SooLeader has been following since last November when the City of Sault Ste. Marie held a contest for a new design for the water tower located near Lake Superior State University.

While the artwork on the tower is finally completed, the overall project to get the water tower to 100 per cent is not.

"We are working on chlorination and testing of the water in the tower. This will take a few days as it takes time to fill, drain and test. AT&T will return the antennas sometime at the end of September. They are going to place new equipment on the tower that has yet to arrive," said Kirk Tews, Water Director for Sault Ste. Marie.

The winning design was an adaptation of Mallory Young's work that she submitted according to Tews.

Work started on the water tower back in June.
