Honor loved ones with front-row seat at new Sault splash pad

Memorial Bench Campaign offers chance for personalized benches at $1,500 each

It might not be on the minds of many of us with this being the heart of winter in the Sault, but believe it or not, the Sault Splash Pad is planning on being open for business later this Spring.

And once the snow is gone, and the construction wraps up, benches will be installed around the splash pad.

But not just any benches.

The Splash Pad Committee came up with the idea to have the general public purchase benches in memory of a loved one.

Steve Habusta, executive director of the Chippewa County Community Foundation, is excited about this appropriately named Memorial Bench Campaign.

"We knew we had to place seating there, but we thought it would be a great way to honor people and give people the opportunity to recognize a loved one and at the same time, raise money for the splash pad," Habusta said.

"If a company wants to purchase one to support the cause, that is something we can do," added Habusta.

As of Jan. 25, six of the eight benches had already been purchased. However, Habusta said that if the demand is high enough, additional benches will be available for purchase.

The personalized benches cost $1,500 a piece. Each bench will feature two lines of fully-engraved inlay.

The Sault Splash Pad is located on Meridian Street next to Project Playground (just north of Sanderson Field).
