Norman Anthony Dumback

Norman Anthony Dumback, age 79, passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at his home in Goetzville, Michigan.  He was born on April 16, 1945, in Stalwart, Michigan, to Anthony and Mary (Mauroski) Dumback. 

Norman grew up in Stalwart and graduated from Pickford High School with the Class of 1963.  He enlisted and served in the United States Army from October 14, 1963 – October 13, 1966.  Upon his honorable discharge, Norman moved to Detroit, Michigan, and worked for Ford.  He decided to move back to the area where he resided for many years in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, while working for Graham Transport, Inc.  He then went on and worked a couple of years for Chippewa County Animal Control. After that, he went to Autore Oil Company for several years where he then retired.  Several years after retirement, Norman decided to re-establish back to his roots in the Stalwart area and moved to his strawberry farm in Goetzville where he enjoyed his land.

Norman enjoyed driving semi over the years and after retiring he enjoyed farming his strawberry farm and crops, hunting and driving around the countryside visiting.  He also had a love for animals and his dogs.  Norman was known for always having a cup of tea and always telling stories.

Norman is survived by several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins.  Norman also has a second family where he held a special bond with Jim and Donna Rogers and their children and grandchildren, who were all very near and dear to him.  Norman’s close friends throughout his lifetime were with the Belinski and Stec families of Stalwart.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Mary Dumback; siblings, Veronica McClellan of Wisconsin, Irene Richard of Iowa, Stella Deverix of Michigan, Ann Andersen of Ohio, Chester Dumback of Michigan, Catherine Dumback of Michigan, Dorothy Nelson of Minnesota, Raymond Dumback of Michigan, John Dunbeck of Minnesota, Francis Dumbeck of Kentucky and James Dumbeck of Michigan.  The spelling of Dumback, Dumbeck and Dunbeck derives from “Dabek”, which was their ancestors’ new American surnames after arriving in Goetzville from Galicia, Poland.

A Military Graveside Service for Norman will be held at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 1:00 PM. A Celebration of Life will follow at Raber Township Hall, 16315 M-48, Goetzville, MI 49736, at 3:00 PM with a polish meal and beverages.

In lieu of flowers Memorial Contributions may be made in memory of Norman to the Chippewa County Animal Shelter, 3660 S Mackinac Trail, Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783.
