The Sault High boys and girls golf teams concluded their season with sixth and eighth-place finishes, respectively, at the MHSAA Division 1 Upper Peninsula Championships.

Senior Carson Kronemeyer started his round with a double bogey on his first hole (the par-3 14th) and was 5-over through No. 18. He rebounded with back-to-back pars and a birdie on Nos. 1, 2 and 3, and went on to shoot a 79 and tie for ninth place overall.

Odin Medrick placed 24th with an 85, and Easton Fitzner and Devin Goetz tied for 28th with 86s. Ryan TenEyck rounded out the Blue Devils with a 91.

Marquette dominated the boys field, finishing 21 strokes ahead of runner-up Houghton, while playing on its home Heritage course. Escanaba won the girls’ team title with a 22-stroke lead over second-place Kingsford at Wawonowin Country Club in Ishpeming.

For the Sault High girls, Hailee O’Connor and Grace Swanson tied for 19th with 113s. For Swanson, it was a 17-stroke improvement from the 2023 finals. Lexie Landis placed 39th, Ava Stark 44th and Lili Gutierrez 46th.

“It’s been an absolute pleasure and honor to coach this team,” said first-year Sault coach Linda Bouvet, whose squad included seven senior boys and four senior girls. “This team had high expectations and a lot of talent. I’m disappointed for the boys, in particular, because they didn’t reach their goal of winning a U.P. title. This was a tough lesson for all of us in learning how to mentally manage expectations, but the great thing about golf is our players can reset and start a new season tomorrow, and work on the game for years to come. They love the golf and competing, and are wonderful young men and women on and off the course.”
