A 46-year-old woman died after crashing her snowmobile into a tree Jan. 26 in Schoolcraft County, according to a news release.

Troopers from the Manistique and Gladstone outposts responded to Trail 413 near Camp Road and began lifesaving measures along with Michigan State Troopers, Commercial Motor Vehicle officers, Manistique public safety officers, Inwood Fire and Rescue personnel, Schoolcraft County Sheriff's deputies, and Guardian Flight, but Alain Davis was pronounced dead at the scene, the release stated.

Davis was traveling east on Trail 413. The trail reached an intersection and Trail 413 continued north. Davis was unable to negotiate the curve causing her to go off the posted track. She was unable to get back on the trail and lost control of the vehicle.

The release said Davis then struck several smaller tree stumps sticking out of the snow prior to being ejected off the snowmobile where she struck a tree at a high rate of speed. Alcohol is not considered a factor in this crash, the release said.

Davis was travelling with her husband who was on a snowmobile near her when the crash occurred.

This crash follows another in Schoolcraft County earlier in the day where a male was travelling too fast for trail conditions. The male driver suffered a broken leg.

The Michigan State Police encourages safe and prudent use of snowmobiles.
