Do you have old tires sitting on your property?

Did you know that, besides being an eyesore, improperly disposed of scrap tires pose a major fire hazard, as well as provide prime breeding ground for mosquitoes?

That's according to the city's public works department, which is gearing up for its fall tire disposal drive.

Recycled tires, meanwhile, are repurposed into mulch for playgrounds and gardens, asphalt for roads, and components for manufacturing processes and construction materials.

The city will hold fall tire disposal on the falling dates:

  • Saturday, Oct. 5 from 7 to 11:45 a.m.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 9 from 7 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
  • Saturday, Oct. 12 from 7 to 11:45 a.m.

Location is the Dept. of Public Works, 1244 E. Easterday Ave. at the composting facility.

The city said there is no cost, and a maximum of 10 clean tires per resident will be accepted.

Tires cannot exceed 4 ft. high by 12 in. wide and must be free from debris.

Tire rims will be accepted, however airplane tires and inner tubes will not.

This event is for residential (non-commercial) use only, the city said.
