New air service to Chicago-Ohare now at Chippewa Co. Int'l Airport

Boutique Air officially started their service Sunday to and from Chicago-Ohare International Airport.

Kinross Chippewa County International Airport (CIU) has new air service to and from the 4th busiest airport in the nation.

Boutique Air officially started its service Sunday to and from Chicago-Ohare International Airport.

Now, CIU serves three major hubs for connecting flights.

"Chicago, Minneapolis, and Detroit hubs all served by Chippewa County International Airport...that's great for our passengers here," said Tami Beseau, CIU airport manager.

Boutique Air is a commuter airline that offers charter and scheduled passenger services.

Boutique Air operates a modern fleet of Pilatus PC-12 aircraft and recently added a fleet of Beechcraft King Air 350 aircraft.

The plane that arrived Sunday on the inaugural flight had six of the eight seats filled.  And those were tourists.  Three people departed on the flight out of CIU back to Chicago-Ohare.

"Delta brings a lot of folks here, also this gives another option from folks from the Visitors Bureau and such have told us a little bit of a niche that we were missing. This is a direct flight right to Chicago to bring them here. So we are excited about that," Beseau said.

Currently, round-trip services are scheduled on Sundays and Thursdays and will run through Labor Day.

This addition of Boutique Air to CIU will allow passengers to connect with other flights on different airlines out of Chicago-Ohare.

Boutique Air's service is out of the General Aviation Terminal and not the main CIU terminal that Delta Airlines uses. The General Aviation Terminal is located about 1/4 mile east of the main terminal on M-80.

CIU received a $250,000 grant from USDOT and MDOT's Office of Aeronautics to improve, increase or revitalize air service to commercial airports.
