MANISTIQUE, Mich - Nothing beats summertime in Michigan! Warm weather brings flowers, ballgames, beaches, and, of course, bicycles! From Monroe to Mackinac to Marquette, bike riding is an enjoyable way for people of all ages to get outside, get exercise and enjoy a Michigan summer. With fuel prices soaring, biking is also a way for many Michiganders to do their daily commutes.

May is National Bike Safety Month, a time to acknowledge the risks to riders, whether due to their own mistakes, equipment failures, poor road conditions or vehicular collisions. It’s critical that riders, pedestrians, and vehicle drivers all understand that they’re sharing the road, and that they must use commonsense precautions to avoid accidents and injuries.

James Studinger is a bike safety advocate and founder of the “Tour Da Yoop, Eh,” the annual 1,200-mile bike tour around Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, attracting riders from across the state and around the globe. Studinger uses his “Tour Da Yoop, Eh” platform to discuss bike safety as well as using the glories of bike riding to get a closer look at the natural beauty Michigan has to offer.
