Husband stuns wife with renewed vows on Famous Soo Locks Boat Tour

'Oh I just thought, now what did he do? He is always surprising me. I knew nothing,' said Janice Calcaterra

Louis and Janice Calcaterra were married 25 years ago in a small chapel in Roseville MI.

Twenty-five years later, Louis surprised Janice by having their wedding vows renewed on the 10 a.m. Famous Soo Locks Boat Tour Wednesday morning.

She had no clue what was going to happen until Famous Soo Locks Boat Tour owner and captain Scott Labonte grabbed the wireless microphone and called the two to the bow of the LeVoyager tour boat while locking through the MacArthur Lock.

Labonte is also an ordained minister on top of all his other duties.

"Oh I just thought, now what did he do? He is always surprising me. I knew nothing," she said.

Louis called Labonte a few months ago to see if and what he could do to help with his idea.

"I floated a couple ideas out to him. He did not know exactly what he wanted. Finally, we talked about reading those vows. He was all for that except for one thing. Set it up as a surprise," Labonte said.

A few years ago, Louis and Janice went on a boat tour with their children. That is when he thought about doing something special for renewing the vows on the 25th anniversary.

They currently live in St. Clair Shores and have a place in Mio, MI they visit often.

They will now travel across the central and western U.P. the next several days spending time on their second honeymoon.
