Sault Ste. Marie has its fair share of quality eateries that include pizza, burgers, seafood, mexican items and more.
In April 2017, Zak and Korina McClellan brought a fresh idea to the city by opening up Oh Crêpe And Coffee across from the Soo Locks.
Zak already had a couple of successful business in the Soo including Fudge Du Locke and Zak's Ice Cream and Candy Shop also located on Portage Ave.
Elise Beaudoin-Johnson, manager of Oh Crêpe And Coffee, was unsure how the unique restaurant would be welcomed.
"I don't know if we thought it would be as successful as it's been. Every year we keep growing. Every year we break our records from the year before. It's definitely something people love. I think the location we have is prime real estate. That helps too," she said.
A crêpe is a thin, delicate French 'pancake' made from an unleavened batter of eggs, flour, and milk
There are many varieties and toppings added to make the crêpe delicious. They are quick to make and easy to eat.
"For the people that are familiar with crêpes, we are very an Americanized version of it. But it is still very much traditional. It's the quality of the product itself plus the novelty of us making the crepes," she said.
While there are several fresh choices on the menu board, the most popular choice is the Nutella & Fruit with the Northerner breakfast crepe second.
"People have no idea what they are walking into. There's an advantage that people can see what we are making right in front of them. They know it's fresh. We spin in right in front of you," she continued.
This is the first time Oh Crêpe has been open outside of tourist season.
"I like it. In the summertime, we get the tourists and regulars. In the winter, I get to see the regulars from the summertime. It's nice to continue to build those relationships with them," she added.
Something added for customer convenience is Oh Crêpe using the Door Dash delivery service.
"That has helped a lot. Without the Door Dash, the business wouldn't be as good. We usually do $200-$300 in Door Dash business in a day. People don't want to go outside in this weather," she said.
In the summer, there are around 15 employees. During this first winter, there are five employees.
