SPICED APPLE CIDER & SPICY NUTS


SPICED APPLE CIDER
12 whole cloves and 1 small orange-press the cloves into the orange peel. Cut the orange into quarters.
Put into 4-5 quart slow cooker.
Add: 8 cups apple cider
4 cups gingerale
2 4” cinnamon sticks
Cook, covered, on LOW for about 4 hours or on HIGH for 2 hours, until heated through.
When the cider is hot, turn the slow cooker to its lowest setting to keep it warm. Keep the cover on to avoid evaporation.
Makes 12 cups.

SPICE MIXED NUTS
Preheat oven to 350F
Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
In the microwave, in a heat proof glass 2 cup measuring bowl, melt 3 Tbsp. unsalted butter with 1 Tbsp. dark brown sugar, and stir to dissolve sugar.
Add:
1 Tbsp. dried, crumbled rosemary
½ Tbsp. dried crumbled tarragon
½ tsp cayenne pepper
1 ½ tsp. salt ( if you use salted butter, cut down some of this salt)
Put 3 cups unsalted nuts of your choice in a large mixing bowl.
Gently pour in the melted butter/sugar mixture as you toss the nuts, making sure to coat all the nuts.
Spread the nuts on the prepared cookie sheet and bake until they become glazed(about 19-20 minutes), stirring once during the cooking process.
Remove from the oven and sprinkle with more salt as desired.
